Animal Model Preclinical Imaging Research Laboratory (PIRL)
Educational Support
Both Directors give frequent research and educational presentations on the instrumentation and their uses to the Georgetown University Medical Center and Main Campus, as well as to outside institutions. Summer internships are offered through both the medical center, the ARCHES program, and main campus fellowships for training on imaging and image analysis. Hands on and didactic training are offered for faculty and staff for investigator-initiated imaging on the Perkin Elmer IVIS Spectrum bioluminescent/fluorescent work station. Additional training is available for all users for detailed image analysis of MRI, X-ray and ultrasound data. In addition, graduate degree programs in imaging and engineering are top priorities and the PIRL is a centerpiece of the GUMC Masters in Medical Physics graduate education program.
