WASHINGTON (December 5, 2024) Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center today announced that philanthropist and business executive Sherrie Beckstead and Emmy award-winning sportscaster and community advocate Wes Hall will serve as the 37th annual Lombardi Gala co-chairs.

The Lombardi Gala is the largest continuous fundraising event for Georgetown Lombardi, with proceeds directly funding world-class research in the areas of basic science research, prevention, treatment and survivorship.

“I am delighted to welcome Sherrie and Wes as our 2025 Lombardi Gala co-chairs,” said Louis M. Weiner, MD, director of Georgetown Lombardi. “Sherrie has been a longtime supporter of our cancer center and brings a passion for our mission and deep connections with the Greater Washington community. Wes has been a major community voice and sports personality in our region for years and understands the value that Lombardi brings to people in D.C. and beyond.”

Beckstead’s role builds on her work over the last eight years as a member of Lombardi Women’s executive committee, an annual event supporting breast cancer research at Georgetown Lombardi.

“It remains an honor to work with the team extraordinaire at Georgetown Lombardi,” said Beckstead. “In every facet, from researcher to patient care, Georgetown Lombardi inspires us to excellence, with the mission of finding a cure for cancer. It is with great pride that I carry out this vision in honor of my late husband, Sidney M. Beckstead.”

Serving as gala co-chair expands Hall’s dedication to community advocacy.

“The tremendous work at Georgetown Lombardi is as remarkable as it is meaningful,” said Hall. “In the search for a cure for cancer, we are also working to help our neighbors, friends and loved ones. I am honored to join this trailblazing team and lend my support to Georgetown Lombardi’s mission. As we care for one, we care for all.”

For the 37th Lombardi Gala, Beckstead and Hall will leverage their combined passions and voices to ensure an unprecedented and unforgettable gala that raises both funds and awareness for cancer research and care for the Washington, D.C., area.

“Working together, I am certain that they will bring boundless energy and effectiveness to their roles,” said Weiner. “I look forward to working with them and celebrating our successes at the 2025 Gala.”

The 37th Lombardi Gala will take place on March 15, 2025, at The Anthem. For more information on ways to sponsor or attend the Lombardi Gala, contact Alana Cassidy Bateman at alana.cassidy.bateman@georgetown.edu or visit the Lombardi Gala website.
