DEI Training and Education Initiatives

The Georgetown Lombardi DEI Office provides funding to support leadership coaching or external leadership training. This leadership training is for individuals who are Georgetown Lombardi affiliates or full members who are from backgrounds underrepresented in cancer leadership. For the internally offered leadership coaching, please see the DEI Funding Opportunities here. Meet the Leadership Coaches working with our program.

In collaboration with Cancer Research, Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC) and Community Outreach and Education, the DEI Office supports the engagement of trainees underrepresented in cancer research. Please see the Cancer Research, Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC) Mentoring Program page for information about mentoring and resources, and the DEI Office Call for Proposals for students and trainees to apply for funding support.

The Lombardi DEI Office also collaborates with other Georgetown Offices, including the Georgetown University School of Medicine Academy for Research, Clinical, and Health Equity Scholarship (ARCHES) Program for ARCHES Fellows focused on cancer research.

For Faculty mentoring, please see the Georgetown University Medical Center Mentoring Program for more information.

Georgetown Lombardi DEI plans to develop affinity groups similar to the successful team member resource groups (TMRG) at Hackensack Meridian Health (e.g., Aspiring Women Leaders; Black MRG). DEI plans to combine trainee, staff, faculty/Member affinity groups formed around areas of interest or identity. If you are interested in the program please contact us at LombardiDEI@Georgetown.edu

IDEAL Awards will focus on providing seed funding exclusively focused on DEI programmatic efforts. Proposals are selected based on implementation readiness and relevance to DEI. DEI funds two IDEAL proposals per year. Information about applications for the upcoming IDEAL Awards will be posted soon.

In the future, Lombardi DEI anticipates organizing an Annual DEI Retreat to showcase DEI activities and trainee, staff and Member accomplishments. We will also initiate DEI Awards (see below) to be given at the retreat once award categories and process have been established.

Stay tuned for more information about upcoming DEI Awards and the nomination process. Georgetown Lombardi DEI is interested in developing awards to recognize contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion for students, staff, and faculty members. If you are interested in learning more or being a part of the process for developing the ideas, criteria and nomination process, please reach out to us at LombardiDEI@georgetown.edu. We welcome your involvement.
