October 21, 2016 — Friends, families and colleagues gathered for Georgetown University’s Fall Faculty Convocation in majestic Healy Hall on October 20 to celebrate the promotion of Georgetown professors. But three professors, including Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Anton Wellstein, MD, were presented with the President’s Award for Distinguished Scholar-Teachers, an honor that recognizes the integration of outstanding research and excellence in teaching.

“Dr. Wellstein is a committed teacher and a creative researcher who fosters an environment of growth and exploration,” said Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia. “He is known for his dedication to mentoring students and for his relentless commitment to encouraging the development of scientists willing to explore new territories and make significant contributions to the body of knowledge in his field.”

Wellstein’s work at Georgetown Lombardi is focused on developing targeted therapies for a variety of cancers and their subtypes. He is a professor of oncology and pharmacology at Georgetown University Medical Center. Darlene V. Howard, PhD, a professor in the department of psychology and a researcher in the Center for Brain Plasticity and Recovery, and Donald C. Langevoort, JD, a professor at the law center, were also presented with the President’s Award for Distinguished Scholar-Teachers.
