“Lost in Translation” — Why Good Science Gets Lost in Grant Writing

Guest Speaker: Lisa Carter-Bawa, PhD, MPH, APRN, ANP-C, FAAN
Cancer Prevention Precision Control Institute (CPPCI) Director at the Center for Discovery & Innovation (CDI) @ Hackensack Meridian Health; and Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center Director for Community Outreach & Engagement Deputy Associate.

During this informal conversation, Dr. Carter-Bawa will talk about the “Five Translation Gaps” and explain why most grantmanship training starts in the wrong place. Through her “Lost in Translation” curriculum, Dr. Carter-Bawa provides a roadmap to bridge these gaps. She will share practical, high-impact insights gained from her extensive experience writing and reviewing grants for both the NIH and PCORI.

Presenting Opportunities

Early Stage Faculty Investigators are invited to Present at the Georgetown Lombardi Executive Committee Research Meeting held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month starting at 9 AM ET.

Purpose: highlight innovative work and encourage engagement between early career faculty and senior faculty for potential collaboration.

Advance registration is required: Use the sign up form to see availability and secure your preferred date to present.

Format: Investigators have 15 minutes to present at the beginning of the meeting. Presentations should be brief and follow the shared presentation template. Presentations should include the following information:

  • Investigator’s research
  • Opportunities and pathways for collaboration
  • Plans for future directions 
  • Allow 5 minutes for Q&A and discussion

Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center Executive Committee meetings:

  • This is the Research Focused Executive Committee Meeting 
  • Third (3rd) Wednesday of every month
  • Directed by Dr. Michael Atkins 
  • Fully virtual
  • Attended by senior faculty members of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Consortium (GU/MedStar/HMH-JTCC/CDI) 
  • You are welcome to attend the full meeting on the day of your presentation
