The AAMC Mid-Career Minority Faculty Leadership Seminar offers networking opportunities, career development planning sessions, and small group consultations with senior faculty and leaders. Visit the registration page for more information on the event.   

What: RFA for the AAMC Mid-Career Minority Faculty Leadership Seminar 
When: October 16-18, 2024
Where: Washington, DC
Who: Two associate level faculty who are historically underrepresented in medicine will receive financial sponsorship to attend. Registration, parking, and incidentals/meals covered) through a reimbursement process.
Deadline to apply for sponsorship: Submit a digital copy of your CV/Biosketch and a 1 page letter of interest to ofaa@georgetown.edu  by August 16, 11:59 PM ET

The Seminar includes a virtual orientation session followed by a 3 day in-person meeting. Attendees will:

  • Assess professional development goals and identify strategies and tools for promotion and tenure 
  • Develop key professional competencies in academic leadership 
  • Enhance leadership skills in the areas of communication, team building, well-being, and life/work integration 
  • Expand your network of colleagues, mentors, and sponsors 
  • Participate in small group career consultation sessions with senior leaders conducted on-site

Sponsorship Application Requirements

  • Must be a GUMC full-time faculty member on any track at the rank of Associate Professor. Late stage Assistant Professors may be considered.
  • Both non-university employed and university employed faculty from SOM, SOH, and SON are eligible to apply
  • Must identify as a member from an underrepresented population in academic medicine by AAMC definition. 
  • Submit CV/Biosketch and one page letter of interest to ofaa@georgetown.edu  by August 16, 2024, 11:59 PM ET.

Sponsorship Process

  1. Submit a digital copy of your CV/Biosketch and a 1 page letter of interest to ofaa@georgetown.edu  by August 16, 11:59 PM ET
  2. Committee of previous GUMC Faculty attendees will review and make recommendations to the Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs (OFAA).
  3. You will be notified if you are selected as a sponsored attendee by August 23 to provide you time to complete your AAMC application.

If AAMC registration fills before the selected GUMC candidate has confirmed their registration, OFAA will sponsor that person for the next AAMC Conference for Early Career faculty pending available funds.
