Individuals, foundations, corporations and organizations play an important role in supporting the cancer center's mission by giving major gifts that will be used immediately for a priority need. You may wish to give to annual operating support, contribute a piece of research equipment, underwrite a fellowship, provide seed money for a new, cutting-edge study, or help the cancer center's facility needs. There are many ways to support Lombardi and make your contribution most meaningful to you.
Some friends of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center give major gifts on a regular, annual basis. Others give larger gifts when they wish to do something special for the cancer center. Major gifts can be made as outright, memorial or honor gifts. Major donors are recognized through the Wall of Donors, room-naming opportunities, the annual report and by invitations to special, educational events.
You can make a gift to the cancer center through a variety of giving arrangements called planned gifts - all of which may enhance your estate and financial plans. These gifts may reduce income and estate taxes and, when contributing appreciated property, allow you to avoid capital gains taxes.
You may remember the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center in your will, or as a beneficiary of a trust or retirement plan. Several types of gifts can provide income for life to you and/or your beneficiaries.
A charitable bequest by will is the most common estate gift, and is a significant way to make a valuable contribution to Lombardi's future and the fight against cancer. Georgetown University also offers a full spectrum of life income gift plans. You can make an outright gift of cash or appreciated property such as stock or real estate. You also can use charitable gift annuities and life insurance. These gift arrangements can enhance your current and long-range financial plans as well as provide resources to ensure the life-saving work of the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
