Karen Dorsch-Vogel Honored During National Nurses Week

This year’s Stacy Boylan Award recipient is described as “virtuous, caring, advocating, and dedicated,” among other words.
May 12, 2016 — “Virtuous, caring, advocating, dedicated,” and a “spirited stamina.” These are the words used to describe Karen Dorsch-Vogel, the recipient of this year’s Stacy Boylan Award.
Dorsch-Vogel is a clinical research nurse in the GI oncology disease group.
Beloved Research Nurse
The Stacy Boylan Memorial Endowment Fund was created in 2006 to help foster Adult Oncology Nursing through an annual educational award. Boylan was a beloved research nurse at Georgetown Lombardi who died in 2002.
“Stacy truly was a beautiful, caring and devoted women,” Dorsch-Vogel said adding that she “felt honored” to receive the award.
Brandon Smaglo, MD, from the Department of Oncology described Dorsch-Vogel in his nomination letter as “always having concern for colleagues and patients.”
National Nurses Week
Bill Boylan, Stacy’s husband, presented the award to Dorsch-Vogel on May 10th as part of a National Nurses Week ceremony at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, honoring outstanding nursing achievement.
“I hope I can continue my journey as a nurse with … professional commitment, dedication and compassion to others,” Dorsch-Vogel said.
Along with the Stacy Boylan Award, Bill Boylan also started Cool Cats, a group described by Dorsch-Vogel as “friends and family who work together to raise money and awareness to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.”
Along with the award certificate, Dorsch-Vogel was also presented with a rose pin, Stacy’s favorite flower, and a $1,500 check, which is an educational award funded by Bill Boylan.
