Human Tissue Bank (HTB)

Contact Marie Mahoney, (202) 687-4815 or mlm98@georgetown.edu.

1. Tissue Collection

  • Human tissue blocks are available from the archives of Georgetown University Hospital.
  • Sectioning is conducted in the histology laboratory.
  • The HTP conducts database searches of pathology records on request. Database searches are provided to identify cases. Demographic information is maintained in a confidential fashion.
  • In addition, collection of fresh human tissues and cryopreservation of frozen tissues is performed on tissue from all anatomic sites including soft tissue, central nervous system, and hematologic neoplasms.
  • All protocols requiring human material must have IRB approval and requests for frozen archived specimens must go through a specific approval process with the Tissue Research Committee. The review is based on scientific merit and statistical validity.
  • Special collections are supported when investigators initiate a request.

2. Pathology Consultation. Dr. Kallakury is a board-certified pathologist. He is available to review slides with investigators on an individual basis.
