Dr. Vicente Notario
Vicente Notario, PhD
Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Dr. Vicente Notario's research focuses on the study of molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis and involves the investigation of the effects of environmental carcinogens, such as chemical pollutants and radiation, on mammalian cells with regard to the expression and activity of cancer genes and their protein products. Recently, Dr. Notario's research group isolated a novel oncogene, termed cph, which is conserved in eukaryotic cells from yeast to humans. Dr. Notario's research has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health from 1989 through 2007.
Dr. Eliot Rosen
Eliot Rosen, MD, PhD
Professor of Oncology, Biochemistry and Cell & Molecular Biology, and Radiation Medicine
Dr. Eliot Rosen holds the Gragnani Chair in Oncology and Radiation Biology. An experienced cell and molecular biologist, his major areas of interest include the molecular function of the breast cancer susceptibility gene-1 (BRCA1) in DNA repair pathways; the role of BRCA1 in regulating the activity of several nuclear receptors (including the estrogen and progesterone receptors); its role in cancer chemoprevention; and signal transuction pathways of scatter factor (hepatocyte growth factor) and its receptor c-Met that leads leads to protection against apoptosis and chemo/radioresistance of tumors. Dr. Rosen is also a board-certified Radiation Oncologist and has many years of experience in the clinical management of various types of tumors, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, brain tumors, and other tumor types.
