Home » ResearchRadiation Biology & dna rEPAIRPROGRAM LEADERSVicente Notario, PhD Dr. Vicente Notario, PhD, is the Radiation Biology Program co-Leader. His research focuses on the study of molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis and involves the investigation of the effects of environmental carcinogens, such as chemical pollutants and radiation, on mammalian cells with regard to the expression and activity of cancer genes and their protein products. Recently, Dr. Notario's research group isolated a novel oncogene, termed cph, which is conserved in eukaryotic cells from yeast to humans. Dr. Notario's research has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health from 1989 through 2007. Mark Smulson, PhD
Dr. Mark Smulson provides expertise in PARP biochemistry and molecular biology. He has worked closely with Dr. Dritschilo for over 25 years and has been Radiation Biology co-Leader for over 10 years. His area of expertise is in poly (ADP-ribosylation), and accomplishments of his laboratory have included cloning of the poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) gene, defining its role in cellular response to DNA damage, and cleavage of the poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase protein in the process of apoptosis. |
