Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Support Programs
The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology cares for our youngest patients with a focus on "family centered care." All support services are specifically tailored to the needs of children, teens and their families, including siblings.
Art and play therapy assists young patients with cancer and other blood disorders and their families learn to cope with the emotional stress and trauma associated with their illness and its treatment.
Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists are available for children, teens and their families to address emotional and behavioral issues that may emerge during and after treatment.
Lombardi Cancer Center's own parent run support organization provides a "link" for parents of newly diagnosed children with parents who have been through the diagnosis and treatment of child. Parent Link sponsors and monitors the Lombardi Children's Cancer Online Support Group available 24/7 to parents, families, friends and caregivers of patients in the Pediatric Hematology/
Late Effects Counseling and Follow-Up
Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Division has its own Cancer Survivorship Program which provides follow-up and counseling for cancer patients who have been off treatment for two or more years. This clinic is open to patients of all ages for the follow-up and counseling that is recommended after childhood cancer treatment.
Transition Back to School
Works to ensure good communication with the school on medical and psychosocial issues as a child transitions back to the classroom. Team members are available to visit the classroom and work with the parents and school in advocating for IEPs and 405 educational plans, as needed by the child. Arrangements can be made for Neuropsychological testing.
