About the Avon Walk
We are excited to announce that the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Capital Breast Care Center will be forming a team to participate in the 2012 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Washington, DC. And we need you!
The walk is a two-day event on May 5-6 bringing together women and men from all walks of life to raise awareness and funds to combat breast cancer. And this year we want to make sure that Georgetown Lombardi’s voice in the fight against breast cancer is heard.
As you may know, Georgetown Lombardi has been the recipient of many Avon Foundation grants. The Foundation has provided more than $7 million in vital funding for the Capital Breast Care Center, a community breast cancer screening clinic, since its doors opened in 2004.
So join our team, and add your voice (and feet)! All members of the Georgetown — and Washington — community are invited. There are three ways you can help:
Walkers will participate in the 39-mile, two-day walk with thousands from around the world. You can walk it all, or walk as much as you can. Each walker is responsible for raising $1,800. It's a big commitment, but we're all in this together so you'll have all the tools and team support you’ll need to meet, and probably exceed, that goal.
Cheerleaders will line the route of the walk on May 5 and 6 to cheer on their Georgetown Lombardi/CBCC teammates and the thousands of other walkers. There is no fundraising requirement, but that doesn’t mean you can’t raise funds as well!
We will hold team meetings, provide support to all those raising funds, and have a number of training sessions for walkers. All members of the Georgetown Lombardi/CBCC team will receive custom designed t-shirts.
We hope you will join us!
