23rd Annual Lombardi Gala 2008

Awards and Special Guests

The Vincent T. Lombardi "Symbol of Courage"
Designed and donated in 1986 by Washingtonian John Safer, the "Symbol of Courage" is permanently on display at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Each year a replica is awarded to a person in the world of sports who has faced cancer and possesses those qualities that made Coach Lombardi an inspiration to all people: dependability, courage, discipline and honor. A monetary grant accompanies this award.

Another John Safer design, this award was established in 1992 and is on display at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. A replica is presented annually for devoting extraordinary efforts to encourage cancer research, prevention and treatment through awareness and philanthropy.
