The Department of Mission and Pastoral Care

We recognize that the diagnosis of cancer can bring about many spiritual issues and questions for some of our patients. Spirituality can also be an important source of strength and hope during one's experience with cancer. As a Catholic and Jesuit institution, Georgetown University Hospital draws inspiration from the healing ministry of Jesus, and is committed to the compassionate care of the whole person. The Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center has dedicated chaplains who specialize in the spiritual and emotional support of oncology patients and their caregivers of all religious affiliations. Please feel free to contact them directly or ask your nurse case manager to facilitate a referral.

Our Services
Our interfaith chaplains are available for:

• Pastoral counseling and prayer in the outpatient clinics and inpatient units
• Sacramental services
• 24-hour on-call service through the Page Operator (202-444-PAGE)
• Spiritual materials such as Bibles, Koran, rosary beads, and prayer books from the Jewish tradition
• Assistance in ethical decision-making
• Assistance with Advance Directives
• Bereavement and grief support groups and counseling
• Staff support
• Counseling for couples and families
• Caregiver Connections support group

Worship and Prayer Services in the Hospital Chapel
The Chapel is located near the Reservoir Road entrance of the Main Hospital. It is open at all times for prayer and reflection. All are welcome to visit.

Catholic Mass is celebrated:

• Monday through Friday at 7:30 a.m. and 12:05 p.m.
• Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
• Sunday at Noon and 4:00 p.m.

A Protestant communion service is held every Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.

"Thirsty Thursdays" inspirational preaching service is held Thursdays at 12:45pm.

A brief prayer service is held Fridays at 12:40 p.m.

Services are televised throughout the hospital on channel 2.

Sprirtuality Break
The spirituality break provides an opportunity for peace, quiet, and spiritual reflection The group meets every Thursday at noon to 12:15 pm in Room L1317 next to the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Clinic. All are welcome.
