Providing Special Services for Patients

Nina Hyde Resource Room

The Nina Hyde Resource Room, located in the waiting area of the Lombardi clinic, is available to patients and families. The resource room contains pamphlets, books, audiotapes and videotapes on a wide range of cancer-related topics. Palliative Care and Symptom Management

This highly personalized program supports a patient's need to be in control of his or her symptoms and pain. The goal of the program is to help individuals achieve fuller, more comfortable lives while undergoing cancer treatment. A palliative care nurse works with the physicians in the program to deliver care and support for patients and their family members and caregivers. Each physician has specialized training in palliative care. The Palliative Care team works closely with your existing care team to manage symptoms of the disease and treatment and to improve quality of life throughout the cancer experience. Nutritional Support

Oncology Nutrition Specialists and other clinical experts work with patients, counseling them on nutritional issues and providing strategies for making food nutritious and appetizing. Click here to read more about the Lombardi Nutrition Counseling Program.

Social Work Services

Compassionate, expert social workers provide support group facilitation, adjustment to illness counseling, crisis intervention, information and referral, advocacy and support services throughout the continuum of care.

Breast Cancer Consultation Group

This multidisciplinary consultation group assists persons diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in making decisions about options for treatment. Persons with a recent positive biopsy of either invasive or noninvasive breast cancer who have not yet undergone definitive surgical treatment are eligible for consultation with this service. A team of breast specialists, including a surgeon, radiation oncologist, medical oncologist, mammographer and case manager, will review your physical findings, biopsy slides, and mammogram films. Pastoral Care

In the Jesuit tradition of the institution, chaplains and clerical staff offer spiritual support to patients and their loved ones as they struggle with the many issues related to the disease, its treatment and aftermath. Click here to read more about the Lombardi's Pastoral Care.

Ethics Consultation

Through this highly regarded service, Lombardi extends an invitation to those dealing with cancer to discuss the ethical implications of various treatment options with experts in the field.

Genetic Counseling
