New Lombardi Director Named |

Lombardi's new director was named in October, and this issue of Lombardi Magazine introduces Dr. Louis M. Weiner to the Lombardi community. An internationally recognized medical oncologist with over 25 years in cancer immunology research, Dr. Weiner begins his tenure as Lombardi Director in January 2008.

The Fitness Effect for Cancer Survivors |

This issue of Lombardi Magazine highlights the new clinical service offered by Dr. Priscilla Furth. Dr. Furth, a basic scientist and medical physician, has developed a clinic for breast cancer patients and survivors that will provide dietary and physical fitness recommendations. Research has shown that simple interventions may protect against disease recurrence and can improve symptoms during and after treatment.

Congratulations to Lombardi's 8 Top Doctors |

This issue of Lombardi Magazine highlights eight of Lombardi's doctors who were named "Top Doctors" in Northern Virginia Magazine. Dr. Claudine Isaacs, co-leader of Lombardi's Breast Cancer Program and attending physician in the clinic, was one of only six doctors featured in a two-page spread in the issue.

Patient Navigator Program in Ourisman Center Celebrates One-Year Birthday |

This issue of Lombardi Magazine highlights the patient navigator program in the Ourisman Breast Health Center. Patients who come to see the breast surgeons at Ourisman are guided through their multiple appointments by a volunteer navigator. Now a year old, the program has expanded to include all four breast surgeons!

First Amey Distinguished Professorship Conferred to Dr. Aziza Shad

Dr. Aziza Shad was bestowed the first Amey Distinguished Professorship on April 12th. The Amey professorship was made possible by a gift from the Amey family in honor of their daughter, Kara, who was treated by Dr. Shad.
