Schafer Memorial Lecture

The Thomas R. Schafer Memorial Lecture Fund for Research and Education in Pancreatic and Gastrointestinal Cancer was established in 1999 as a tribute by his family and friends, who felt strongly that his spirit should live on and be shared through this fund to sponsor an annual lectureship, designed to share the latest innovations in cancer therapy.

The 2010 Schafer Memorial Lecture is titled, "From Bench to Bedside to Pfizer." The lecture will be given by Mace Rothenberg, MD, senior vice president of clinical development and medical affairs at Pfizer Oncology. Formerly a professor of medicine at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Rothenberg has published more than 100 articles and book chapters. His research has focused on early stage drug development, gastrointestinal malignancies and ovarian cancer. He now oversees development of new cancer drugs at Pfizer, Inc.
